A proactive approach to health care
Improving health through nutritional guidance and exercise is the goal of Mizell Memorial Hospital's Wellness Center, currently located at Delta Plaza, 406 North Main Street in Opp (see information below about plans for a new location).
The wellness program was created to address concerns from the community about proactive opportunties to improve health. It is an important step in helping people of our community gain better control of their health through exercise and lifestyle changes.
Staff
The program offers members access to nutritional information and trained staff for individualized programs and instruction.
The Wellness Center staff includes rehab technicians, physical therapists, and a registered dietitian.
Getting Started
The first step in getting started with a wellness program is a fitness test to help set goals. This includes measuring height, weight, body composition, body mass index, blood pressure, resting and target heart rates, flexibility and strength.
Participants are offered individualized fitness programs with instructions from trained staff.
Equipment
The Mizell Rehab & Wellness Center provides a variety of exercise equipment, including state-of-the-art cardio machines with heart-rate monitors and individualized television screens.

Membership
Several membership levels are available. Mizell Senior Advantage members are entitled to a special discount. For information on the various levels of membership, call 334-493-1730.
Hours
The Mizell Rehab & Wellness Center is open:
Monday - Thursday, 5:30 a.m.-9:00 p.m.
Friday, 5:30 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 Noon

New Wellness Center under construction
Early 2009 will mark the opening of a new, 11,000-plus square foot facility housing Mizell's Wellness Center.
The new facility on Brantley Street offers an indoor, heated swimming pool for aquatic exercise, said Mizell's Medical Director Dr. Wheeler A. Gunnels.
“This is a first for our area and will offer wonderful opportunities for fitness and therapeutic exercise."
Another first is the racquetball court, ideal for those who prefer a more intense aerobic workout. In addition, nutrition education, therapeutic massage, and other programs will be available.
Additionally, various types of land and water exercise classes are planned.
